Remember when people used to get all excited about plane trips? They used to dress up in their Sunday best and look forward to eating that exotic ‘plane food’. I am practically laughing out loud right now, just thinking about it, for times have changed, my friends. Travelling now means queuing up in eternal lines at the security check to have your shoes, bags, coats and even your body inspected for items that could be used to potentially hijack a plane. Like, nail scissors. Or tweezers. Or beauty products that are in bottles over 100ml large.
That just doesn’t make sense – I mean, if you can somehow bring down a plane with 100ml of beauty creams, why is it you’re allowed a whole baggie of little 100ml bottles, but not, say, just one big 500ml bottle? It’s absurd, and that’s why my blood just boils when my very favourite beauty staple is confiscated because it just happens to be in a 125ml bottle. Grrr…
But you can’t fight City Hall, am I right? So the only way to assure yourself that you will actually board your plane with all your beauty products intact is to buy teeny weeny bottles of them.
Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I mean, that way, you can use them on the plane. And whilst your on your trip – so long as that journey is short enough that 100ml of product will suffice, that is.
To look and feel just as perky and hydrated after hours of travel as you did when you left, I’ve found a few great natural and organic beauty travel sets that will not only leave you feeling pretty, but pretty smug, too, after that nasty customs officer lets you breeze right through the security check.
Travel Sets for Skincare
Give yourself a quick pick-me-up with Odacite’s Hydra-Repair Treatment Mist and follow up with the Wild Carrot Serum Concentrate to hydrate tired skin and give yourself a healthy glow in the airplane restroom. Dab the Black Cumin- Cajeput Serum Concentrate on pesky pimples so their progress is halted as you travel. Even better, you can use the juice mixers in the mini-bar of your hotel room with the 30ml size of Odacité’s incredible Synergie Immediate Skin-Perfecting Masque to infuse your visage with much-needed vitamins.
Best for: all skin types
Suffer from reddish, flaky, or dull skin? Don’t let it get even more drier and more irritated whilst high in the sky or switching climates. This set will gently clean impurities from the skin without causing extra breakouts, rashes or clogging pores. With a minimal list of skin-soothing ingredients in the Gentle Cream Cleanser and Rose Soothing & Protective Moisturizer, your face will be calm and smooth wherever you go. The Pure Jojoba Oil can be used as a makeup remover, oil cleanser or moisturizer. Plus, this set comes with an ultra-soft, fast drying muslin cloth to gently exfoliate; steam and pat dry your skin.
Best for: sensitive skin
Men have different skincare needs than women, and this kit has it all. There’s a complete skincare and shaving ritual pack here for men that encourages a clear, balanced complexion and leaves the skin feeling calm, refreshed and protected. Luxury brand Sodashi’s Mankind Skin Care Kit contains: Clean Skin Cleanser and Shaving Emulsion, Smooth Skin Concentrate, Skin Karma Aftershave and Face Mist, Skin Restore, Sleek Moisturiser and an Eye and Lip Smoother, all in a handy travel canvas bag.
Best for: men, of course!
Use any of Dr. Alkaitis truly extraordinary products while you travel to feed your skin the healthiest active ingredients it craves. Each of the eight products in this kit are certified organic, ethically wild crafted, and/or biodynamic with the motto “if you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.” These products contain firming, balancing, healing, protecting, hydrating, exfoliating, pore-refining, and anti-inflammatory ingredients that promote clear, glowing skin. Frankly, a luxurious spa treatment in a small box – just what you need after a long flight.
Best for: oily or combo skin
Are you traveling for what seems like 1000 hours, going on the most stressful business trip of your life, or just going somewhere that doesn’t offer anywhere to unwind? Great news: you can take the most relaxing break of your life wherever you may be. Open each of these bottles – which include Cleansing Milk, Bulgarian Rose Water, Epi-Peel, Restorative Radiance Masque, Quintessential Serum, Bulgarian Lavender and a Body Oil – and a wee spa immediately comes to your home. This restorative treatment kit comes with everything you’ll need to transform your dull, congested skin: I personally love the tri-purpose micro-exfoliating mask and peel and a restorative radiance masque.
Best for: dry skin
Hair and Body Travel Kits
When it comes to travelling it can be a nightmare for skin. Whether it be the atmosphere on the plane or landing in a new climate, it can leave your skin dry and needing a little TLC. Well, all of your skin needs have now been answered in the form of this Nathalie Bond Organics Skin Balm. It may look small but it sure is mighty and works in a multitude of ways which means less packing when travelling. Not only will this balm work to lock in moisture and leave you with enviably smooth skin, but it can also be used to remove eye make-up and to soothe sunburn.
These balms are available in three scents, two of which are infused with essential oils which work to heal both skin and body, too. Whilst the Rose Geranium + Patchouli Skin Balm works to rejuvenate the skin with ingredients that also work to battle stress and depression, the Lavender + Bergamot balm is perfect for relaxation with ingredients intent on lowering blood pressure. Perfect after a stressful flight!
Best for: sensitive to extra sensitive
We always recommend ditching the free hotel shower products that are filled with who-knows-what and swapping them in for Rahua’s classic and voluminous jet setter kit. You’ve probably seen Rahua in the press, as it’s a hardcore favourite with organic fanatic celebs like Gwynnie, Miranda Kerr and Gisele. It’s 100% natural, vegan, SLS (and everything else)-free hair care that brings the magic of the Amazon to any shower in the world!
Best for: avoiding crappy hotel shampoos
Unpack and unwind, reset and refresh. Each bottle of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and hand balm offers a new invigorating and delightful scent while strengthening and soothing all areas that need the TLC. Plus, this flight-friendly vegan kit even reminds you to consciously save water no matter where you are by turning off the faucet while lathering – an especially great idea in drier, drought-ridden countries.
Best for: those who want a full set of their own natural showering products
The hair products in this PHB set work together to cleanse, balance, boost volume and nourish your potentially lifeless and greasy hair after traveling and prevents it from going down the dull road ever again. Use the body wash and lotion to rejuvenate your senses and boost your mood while cleansing and softening skin with active botanicals. All of PHB’s Cruelty Free products contain high percentages of certified organic ingredients without SLS, Parabens, artificial fragrances or colors, alcohols, or truly anything harmful you can think of. You will be a fresh, happy and healthy traveler from head to toe!
Best for: long trips. These are generously sized!
Perfect for dry hair, this gorgeously scented travel kit contains just enough for a short holiday. There’s a rich, bamboo infused shampoo, a hair mask (which you can use as a conditioner) that makes your hair smell like a jasmine perfumed garden on a hot summer’s night, and finally, there’s a special hair oil to dab on the tips of your locks for especially dry, sunny days.
If you have sensitive skin, when you travel, it may scream in protest. And by ‘scream’, I mean ‘turn red’. Sönd was designed to calm and support sensitive skin by using an ingredient that’s just now getting recognition in the beauty industry: silica. This boosts collagen production, protects against inflammation and slows ageing, especially when applied topically and taken as a supplement. The brand’s starter kit, which contains a facial spray, serum, moisturiser and mineral supplements, fits perfectly in your carry on, and ensures your face won’t be ‘screaming’ when you land.
Airplane food is just insanely bad normally. Rich in carbs, poor in nutrition. And airlines (and the people around you) don’t really appreciate it when you bring your own meals on board. So radiate from the inside out by sprinkling this edible beauty mix to your coffee, tea, smoothie, or any preferred drink. Filled with super berries to enhance performance, calm nerves, and increase collagen and silica production to fortify the skin, hair and nails!
Best for: taking on the plane
We’ve all been there – stuck eating heavy hotel food, or exploring a new city in which nothing – the language, the people, the food – is familiar. Instead of venturing out on the street and eating something that may not agree with you, protect your gut with one of these little packets. Just add to your favorite nut milk (if you can find one where you are!) to help fill nutritional gaps and make cleansing effortless. With chocolate or vanilla shakes to choose from, these are easier and tastier than carrying around loads of vitamin bottles.
Best for: trips to places with weird food
These oil blends are must-haves for any travel you’ve planned in the New Year. Both are simultaneously calming and uplifting, with essential oils of lavender, lemon myrtle, patchouli, peppermint and eucalyptus among others, which instantly eases any physical or emotional discomforts associated with travelling. Keep your mind, immune system and stomach grounded while in-flight!
Best for: those who suffer from jet lag
