Though there are many talented fashion designers out there, few could be considered true ‘artists’. And even fewer would be worthy of an exhibition in a major museum. But Alexander McQueen is one of those few.
After the acclaimed Savage Beauty exhibition at the V&A in London this year, which was the most attended show in the long history of the V&A, renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight and the SHOWstudio team set about opening up his film archive, searching for unused and unseen footage from his collaborations with Alexander McQueen.
Sitting alongside his ‘Unseen McQueen’ and ‘Black: 2015’ projects, this film by Knight – created with the help Younji Ku and Jon Emmony – features footage shot in 2010 for the tribute film, ‘To Lee, With Love, Nick.’ The short fashion film features some of McQueen’s most acclaimed designs as selected by current head of the house of McQueen, Sarah Burton, and with the input of stylist Edward Enninful.
The video perfectly captures the dark beauty of McQueen’s fashion, translating it into art in breathtaking motion.
