The Finalists: EcoChic Design Award 2014

By Chere Di Boscio

It’s that exciting time of year again, when the finalists for the world’s most prestigious eco-conscious fashion design award have been announced.

Ten talented young fashion designers have been shortlisted to win the EcoChic Design Award, based on their creation’s beauty, marketability and of course, sustainability.Β The contestants use techniques including zero-waste cutting, fabric upcycling and reconstructing existing garments to create their entries.

Being awardedΒ the prize is a life-changing event that dramatically boosts the designer’s knowledge of the fashion industry and profile. The winner will create a capsule collection for Shanghai Tang, working closely with the brand to collaborate on the project in Hong Kong. Three months of full time design work would follow, during which the young designer would learn about how to work with a creative team, working on sampling and the marketing of a fashion collection. The final designs will go on sale to customers in Shanghai Tang’s stores around the world and online in late 2015.

Which of the collections below would you like to see in shops? The winner will be announced later this month. Watch this space!
