There are no divas quite like Vegan Divas–conscious, fabulous, and above all, compassionate. So wonder Fernanda Capobianco gave this name not only to her NYC based vegan bakery, but also to her line of handmade jewellery.
Capobianco recently traveled to Rio de Janeiro, and stumbled upon a unique jewellery line that struck her as being representative of both her Brazilian heritage and the vegan lifestyle she’s passionate about. Using only animal free materials, Fernanda added a little touch of Gotham to the range before deciding to bring the designs back to New York for sale.
“I was in my home town in Brazil last December and felt in love with these pieces and their designers. They meticulously pick their materials and have such intricate craftsmanship. Each piece has been carefully crafted with a crochet technique using metallic wire with a delicate gold finish”, says Capobianco “We just added some mixed metals and dark colored crystals to give the collection that New York edge,” she explains.
Eradicating animal cruelty is always Capobianco’s main objective–she refuses to use leather, coral, ivory, or any animal products in her jewellery. To make her stance on this even more powerful, she teamed up with fellow New Yorker and Animal Rights crusader, Amanda Hearst. The sales of the New Yorker Collection will directly benefit Amanda Hearst’s Friends of Finn Committee, a division of the Humane Society.
The publishing heiress and animal lover says: “I started Friends of Finn to raise money and awareness to end the industry of puppy mills in the United States. Working with Vegan Divas just makes perfect sense, because we are both committed to protecting our animal friends”.
Hearst is a huge fan of the jewellery and has quite a few pieces herself: “I simply love the collection and now with a portion of the proceeds going to Friends of Finn, New Yorkers can look chic and stylish while knowing they are helping to end animal abuse.”
Infused with the style and vibes of the Big Apple, the New Yorker Collection offers a selection of statement earrings, bracelets and necklaces complete with famous New York names, including Chelsea, Park Avenue, and Greenwich.
And are all the pieces sourced ethically and sustainably? “Of course!” says the founder. “The jewellery is made of recycled materials. Any other way wouldn’t be kind to animals, and ultimately wouldn’t be vegan”.
