Confession time: I’m the editor of a fashion magazine, and have worked in fashion for a decade. But frankly, I am not a fan of fashion weeks.
Firstly, I’m against the idea that we need to change the style of our clothes every six months. It’s bad for the planet, it’s bad for our bank accounts, and it’s bad for fashion designers and their teams–I mean, coming up with completely new collections 2 (and sometimes more!) times a year is stressful, to say the least.
Secondly, there are a lot of….’eccentric’ people at these shows. The kind of people who are so obsessed with how they dress, the words ‘fashion’ and ‘victim’ come to mind (amongst others).
While some who follow Fashion Week genuinely love clothing design and see it as an artform, there is also a large number of (usually outrageously dressed) people who chase the shows only for glamour and attention, but know very little about the fashion industry at all.
