IMAGENERIA: Changing Consumption As We Know It

Ready for serious change in how consumer consumption works? IMAGENERIA sure is. Here’s what they do and why they’re sustainable

By Chere Di Boscio

Friends – the future is here! And it’s called IMAGENERIA.

IMAGENERIA is a multi-sided platform for 3D-printable lifestyle products. It was launched on November 17, 2021, with over 300 high quality 3D-printable digital assets. It is the brainchild of designers from all over the world, including one of our favourite sustainable 3D printing design pioneers, Julia Daviy.

IMAGENERIA allows consumers the opportunity to use digital assets in the metaverse to print 3D items on demand, or to turn a 3D printable design into NFT. It’s the first global platform of its kind.

To show just what’s possible in the digital world in terms of sustainable design, we asked IMAGENERIA to explain a bit more about what they do.

Exactly how does IMAGENERIA work?

Founded in 2021, IMAGENERIA is a startup based in Los Angeles which includes a multi-sided platform for high quality and sustainable 3D-printable goods. It also incorporates R&D, a 3D studio, a global industry community, quality assurance, and a competence centre.

An artificial neural network will help the IMAGENERIA R&D team increase the efficiency and accelerate the development of 3D-printable lifestyle products. IMAGENERIA unites scientists and manufacturers who can reveal new trends and opportunities to test and use new materials for sustainable value change in additive manufacturing.

Does the customer have to have a 3D printer if they buy a digital asset?

Customers can use 3D printable files as digital assets in the metaverse and for 3D printing on demand. They can also choose a digital 3D-printable design or product as a 3D printable NFT.

When customers buy a digital 3D-printable asset, they can use it in any personal creative project and/or in the virtual world. As we move towards a united virtual space, the opportunity to use these designs is becoming wider. For now, they could be used for video calls, gaming, etc.

However, when the customer feels that this particular product is what they need to have in the physical world, they can also 3D-print or manufacture it via the distributed 3D printing manufacturing network of the IMAGENERIA platform, focused on making consumer products.

Alternatively, the customer can 3D-print the digital asset in any independent professional studio in any part of the globe.

They can also pass it on to the next generation in digital format only.

What exactly is meant by NFT?

NFTs are non-fungible tokens. These function as digital certificates created and stored in the blockchain. They protect the copyright of the original product. IMAGENERIA is the first platform to enable NFTs for 3D-printable assets (together with further manufacturing options). This additionally protects the copyright of the designer’s digital assets. Any NFT product also gives other advantages, such as the opportunity to buy and sell freely, and to even own these NFTs as investment assets.

To give you an example: we’ve created the largest 3D printed flag. It’s registered in the Guinness book of World Records. When recreated and adapted to exist in the virtual environment as a 3D-printable NFT, it could be used in different ways, such as:

  • an asset which can be inherited by people who collect unique products associated with extraordinary events (in this case, the first-ever 3D-printed flag)
  • as a reproduction. Since NFTs refer to a 3D-printable file, this flag can be recreated any time in the future by the NFT owner

Who is leading this?

IMAGENERIA is a community platform. Designers from all over the globe created the designs represented on the site now. Our team is diverse and includes creatives, tech geniuses and other team members.

Since IMAGENERIA just officially launched, we are in the process of adding the design studios and more independent designers. The team behind the platform has extensive experience in digital design, 3D printing, and other technologies. They’ve been involved in R&D in digital design and 3D printing, delivering results from as far back as 2015.

What will the 3D objects ordered from the site be made of?

We intend to work with sustainable materials. For instance, for 3D printed jewelry, accessories, and art, we use metals. These include precious metals which are, in many cases, recycled and recyclable.,

We also use bio-based materials. For example, we have 100% bio-based materials made of waste from the wood industry. We are cooperating with academics and scientific startups to test new types of bio-based materials for 3D printing. These are just a few ideas to help solve the waste problem.

Our approach is not only to solve environmental problems, but to also create innovative new design products.

IMAGENERIA: Changing Consumption As We Know It

In what ways is IMAGENERIA a pioneer?

IMAGENERIA has started the engine of collective co-creation and imagination. We incorporate a mix of technology, trends and digital economic principles into action. We bring value to creators and investors, and deliver shared expertise and resources for a better future.

As mentioned, IMAGENERIA offers 3D-printable files to use as digital assets in the metaverse environment, as well as physical objects (real lifestyle products).

We are the platform that enables the digital delivery of consumer products, anywhere in the physical world (including space). Soon, we will enable designers to upload their digital 3D-printable assets straight to the metaverse.

IMAGENERIA specialises in high quality 3D-printable lifestyle products. It is a pioneer of a value creation mix for its participants, by offering:

  1. a marketplace of goods and services at all stages, from design to consumption
  2. new sustainable and transparent value chains
  3. interaction between creators and consumers, developers and manufacturers, scientists and industry practitioners, individuals and organizations
  4. collaboration in the area of high quality 3D-printable design and distributed additive manufacturing
  5. an infrastructure with significant potential for scalability and business growth due to an advanced technology mix (AI, AR, additive manufacturing, NFT, blockchain, digital energy)
  6. the talents of creators globally, who value our focus on solutions for sustainability in order to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals

Is IMAGENERIA sustainable?

Absolutely. At IMAGENERIA, we are in the business of protecting our planet for future generations to come. The digital and physical products on our platform have at least 97% less environmental impact than average traditionally made consumer products.

We want to create long-term stakeholder value by factoring economic, social, and environmental impacts into strategic and operational decisions. We do this in order to accelerate sustainability outcomes for customers, creators, and investors.

The environment is important to us. We use digital delivery to drive sustainability in additive manufacturing and 3D-printable design in order to reduce our carbon footprint, and eliminate waste. The company also uses renewable energy, and offers customers waste-reducing, on-demand services.

We have initiated a public dialogue about sustainability in order to find new ways of digital delivery and distributed manufacturing. Our aim is to eliminate negative impacts, and to make beautiful objects with features that are unachievable with other manufacturing methods.

Of course, IMAGENERIA ensures equal opportunities and inclusive spaces for digital 3D-printable asset creators. We also offer a community for those interested in a metaverse experience, connecting the digital and physical worlds.

At IMAGENERIA, we suggest discovering new ways of imagination, creation, design, production, consumption, and recycling together. We aim to bridge the digital and physical worlds, innovation and arts, technology, and humanity, sustainably.
