The avocado is a beautiful fruit packed full of healthy goodness, so much so that to only eat it and not use its full beauty potential by applying it topically to the skin and hair would be a crime to Mother Nature herself!
The nutrient dense, creamy fruit – affectionately referred to as ‘nature’s butter’ – is an excellent source of over twenty vitamins and minerals.
But why is this fruit (technically, a berry) so damn good at making us prettier? It boils down to its poly- and monounsaturated fatty acids, which protect your skin. Monounsaturated fats keep the top layer of your skin moist so it’s soft and healthy, while polyunsaturated fatty acids protect it from sun damage, free radicals and inflammation.
As for our hair, the great news is that avocados contain between 2 and 6 micrograms of biotin, which is around 6 – 16 percent of our recommended daily intake. As part of the B complex vitamin group, biotin prevents hair loss and dry skin.
If you want beautiful skin without buying expensive skin products, just make avocados a part of your diet. Avocados are creamy, tasty, inexpensive and versatile. You can make guacamole, top sandwiches or salads with them or add avocado to quesadillas and tacos. If you get tired of eating them, you can just mash up an avocado and apply directly to your skin or as a mask on your hair.
But I get it – sometimes you want to open a jar of something that doesn’t smell like lunch, but provides all the same benefits. Here are 10 avocado based beauty products that are truly worth a try.
Antipodes Avocado Pear Night Cream
