5 Ways To Get Rid of Cellulite Naturally

Wondering how to get rid of cellulite naturally? We’ve got 5 simple tips!

By Diane Small

Kate Moss, Jerry Hall, Rihanna and even Beyonce have it. You can get it whether you’re young or old, fat or thin. Women get it more than men, due to our greater abundance of fat-storing hormones. Yep, we’re talking cellulite.

Some of us are just destined to have it more than others, no matter how hard we kick it in the gym. But luckily, there are ways to get rid of cellulite naturally. Or at the very least, reduce its appearance.

We asked the experts at Legology to give us some info on the dreaded dimples, and what we can do to diminish them.

What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite simply describes pockets of fluid which have become trapped between fat cells. These pockets causing dimpling and unevenness in the overlying skin. It isn’t a disease or a condition, it’s just the way the connective tissue below the surface of the skin interacts with the layer of fat tissue, and congestion around it.

According to Legology, women get more cellulite than men. That’s because our fat layer and connective tissue is arranged vertically. This increases the chances of the fat layer protruding, resulting in what we have come to know as cellulite.

Men are less likely to experience this, as their connective tissue has a criss-cross structure. As a result, the fat cells have nowhere to visibly protrude, resulting in a less bumpy appearance.

Why Do Some Get Cellulite, While Others Don’t?

So why are some women more prone to cellulite than others? There are a few reasons:

  • Genetics: you are likely to inherit cellulite, and the factors that contribute to it
  • Hormonal profile: for instance, a decrease in estrogen during menopause, which in turn affects the blood flow to connective tissue, making dimpling more prominent
  • Lifestyle: being inactive and eating a diet high in fluid-retaining carbohydrates and salt will encourage cellulite
  • Gender: women are more prone, as mentioned above

While we can’t change our genetics – or even our hormones – that easily, we can get rid of cellulite naturally by following a few steps.

5 Ways To Get Rid of Cellulite Naturally

1. Change Your Diet

Eating a low-fat diet of lean protein paired with loads of high quality vegetables will help you get rid of cellulite naturally. This not only helps you to lose body fat, but prevents further excess fat from being stored. Lowering your carb, salt and sugar intake, as well as reducing how much processed food and alcohol you consume, will also help.

Reducing your saturated fat intake and eating oily fish high in Omega-3 oil is another step to help improve your body’s circulation, which can diminish cellulite.

2. Do Some Strength Training

One of the most essential ways to get rid of cellulite naturally is to exercise. By firming the muscles underneath your layer of cellulite, you can help to smooth out the appearance of your skin.

Focus on exercises that build muscle in places that tend to get cellulite. Namely your quads, buttocks, hips and hamstrings. If your skin is pulled tightly over your toned muscles, there won’t be any room for dimpling!

These tips also help to reduce cellulite naturally:

  • Not sitting still for too long
  • Alternating your shower between hot and cold
  • Stretching with yoga or Pilates

PS: Although doing loads of cardio won’t target your cellulite directly, it will help you to burn fat, lose weight, and improve the appearance of your cellulite as well as your confidence.

In fact, i doesn’t really matter what you do for exercise, as long as you are active. You could be doing your 8000 steps a day or going regularly to the gym. It’s all beneficial! Exercise helps to pump lymph. This, in turn, improves drainage and the metabolism of toxins. These toxins may otherwise congest the body and cause cellulite.

3. Try At Home Treatments

There are plenty of at-home treatments to help you get rid of cellulite naturally.

For example, Legology is big on body brushing, and for good reason. It’s one of the biggest favours you can do your body whether you have cellulite or not! That’s because it boosts the circulation of lymph and reduces toxicity.

Simply brush dry, damp or wet skin with a solid body brush for at least 2 minutes once or twice a day. You’ll see a noticeable difference in skin texture, transparency, tone, and in time cellulite. Your skin will feel smoother, ‘cleaner’ and less congested.

For an extra boost, try dabbing some Legology Cellu-Lite Oil to the bristles, using quick flicks all over the body in an upwards direction.

Many also swear that using a scrub made of oil and coffee grounds works. And for an extra boost, you can wrap your butt and legs in the coffee scrub in plastic to create a homemade wrap. Let it sit for 30 mins, then rinse off.

4. Get A Massage

As mentioned above, moving lymph throughout the body is essential if you want to get rid of cellulite naturally. And a wonderful way to do this is through massage!

Massaging your problem areas firmly is believed to reduce the appearance of cellulite by breaking down the toxins and fat cells that have built up beneath the skin.

It may sound like the most fun way to get rid of cellulite naturally. But note: when we say ‘massage’, we mean a hardcore, deep-tissue massage. Not a relaxing one, really! In fact, this process can be long, gruelling, and a little bit painful. You will need to have your legs and butt massaged frequently and HARD.

Want to do it yourself? Grab a rolling pin and start massaging down hard. Avoid the delicate shin bone and knees.

If you do it often and hard enough, you will soon see a difference!

5. Try Endermologie

Our final way to get rid of cellulite naturally is the most expensive. But maybe the most effective!

Endermologie is a natural skin treatment that combines massaging, rolling and sucking at the skin. These actions break up fat cells that cause cellulite and dimpling.

The technology in the CELLU M6® Alliance activates the natural processes of your body and help your skin become healthier from the inside out. The treatment reactivates your synthesis of collagen and also helps to drain excess fluid in your tissues, break down fats, and accelerate the capillary development of your blood cells. Elastin and hyaluronic acid is then applied to re-densify your skin.

The process combines the three separate procedures – rolling, flap, and suction. The flap treatment stimulates the skin in both vertical and horizontal directions. The flap head on the machine is able to target different depths of your skin and activates your body’s natural chemicals. Rolling and suction combine to create a nice massage that uses your bodies physiological responses deeper within the skin to target those subcutaneous fat cells (it tones your cellulite).

The roll head has two autonomous rollers that can move at separate speeds and turn independently too. The CELLU M6® Alliance takes rolling, flapping, and suctioning and integrates it with Alliance Skin Identity, a sensor for that makes your treatment entirely personalised. It is adaptable and can target specific areas that are normally more resistant to treatment, like your back and neck.

The best part is the Alliance treatment is completely natural, pain-free, and chemical free, too. The feeling you get during the treatment is a little intense, and the course of treatments isn’t really cheap, but the results are worth it.
