Adwoa Aboah And John Hardy In Mad Love

Adwoa Aboah And John Hardy have done something beautiful together…

By Chere Di Boscio

John Hardy is a Canadian environmentalist, artist and jeweler who has long been inspired by Bali. Adwoa Aboah is a popular model, activist and podcaster. They have several decades between their ages, and ostensibly have little in common. But the two have made Mad Love together.

And by ‘Mad Love’ – I mean an ethical jewelry collection, of course!

The 14-piece capsule collection celebrates the power of radical, pure, passionate love. It features what has been described as a ‘perfectly imperfect’ heart motif, which was hand drawn by Adwoa herself. These tiny hearts – which also reflect Aboah’s many dainty tattoos – are showcased on the jeweler’s Classic Chain. They’re meant to symbolize acceptance of yourself and others, flaws and all.

These delicate, yet strong pieces, like all John Hardy jewelry, are handmade in Bali by skilled, fairly paid artisans. Each piece takes several days to complete, as the super-fine chain links are woven one-by-one. We also love the fact that they’re made from recycled gold and silver.

From Muse To Designer

This second collaboration between Adwoa Aboah And John Hardy evolves the former’s role from muse to design partner. Hardy chose her for ‘her unapologetic individuality’ and ability to forge meaningful human connections through her social media and podcasts. The collection is meant to reflect these qualities.

“It was important for me to work closely with John Hardy on this collection. Each design tells a  meaningful story and can be given to a loved one or to yourself. I love getting jewelry for myself  and the independence that it represents. Mad Love says what I can’t put into words: how much  I care about that person or community. It’s my sign off for everything,” says Aboah.

Originating from her freehand sketches and reflecting the autograph on Aboah’s personal notes, each heart is wholly unique — just like its wearer. The structural chain connecting the hearts is meant to represent ‘love’s fluid juxtaposition of strength and spontaneity.’

The John Hardy brand, which has long produced ethical statement jewelry in Bali, is particularly proud of this collection, as they believe it reflects the zeitgeist. “Radical inclusivity and unapologetic individuality are central to the John Hardy ethos,” explains CEO Kareem Gahed “Adwoa embodies these values through her self-expression and in how she shows up for her community. ‘Mad Love’ is a homage to that beautiful tenacity.”

The collection’s signature elements appear in seven distinct designs, each available in recycled 14K gold or reclaimed sterling silver. They were designed by Aboah to reflect her love for layering and stacking statement pieces together.

All items in this collection are imbued with deep meaning. For example? The Classic Chain Heart Bracelet and Classic Chain  Toggle Bracelet were designed to show how love goes full circle and is reciprocal in nature. The designed-to customize Chain Heart Necklace can be worn in multiple ways and layered with the Classic Chain Foxtail Heart Necklace. The Mad Love earrings feature a mix-and-match of hearts that articulate the “bold alone, stronger together” ethos that underpins Gurls Talk, Aboah’s female-empowerment platform.

With prices starting at just $250, “Mad Love” is the perfect collection to gift to someone you’re passionate about – including yourself.
