Getting Hooked On Crochet With Hook Nook & WAK

How on earth did crochet go from being associated with sweet little old grannies, to pink haired, tattooed Instagrammers?

Well, who knows. But that’s exactly what’s happened – as demonstrated by the partnership between hip, DIY knit brand We Are Knitters and pink-haired influencer Jessica Carey.

Carey, who is the fervent crochet designer and host of The Hook Nook Life, recently teamed up with WAK, founded by María José Marín and Alberto Bravo, to create some chic, easy-to-make styles that just about anyone can learn. Each kit comes with all the tools for you to make a gorgeous crocheted piece from scratch: yarn, crochet hooks, a pattern, a little sewing needle and tag, and a recyclable bag to keep all your crochet supplies in.

The styles are all loose and flowing, meaning you don’t need to get too hung up on sizing, and there aren’t too many pieces to put together, since most of the patterns have short sleeves – which is a bit of a blessing, since as most crafters know, sleeves can be tricky! You can pick from beginner’s patterns (like the sweet tee above), to more advanced ones, like the Nolan top, below.

No matter what you choose to make, you’re going to feel amazing when your creation is done. As Jessica says: “Whether it’s yarn, or paint, or wood, or words or ANYTHING, we all have felt that sense of purpose when creating things with our hands and minds.”

Indeed, super-creative people like Madonna, Eva Longoria, Krysten Ritter, Meryl Streep and men like Ashton Kutcher and George Lucas have all expressed the joy they have when they pick up crochet hooks or knitting needles, it seems DIY clothes making is one celeb trend that’s not going anywhere for awhile.

The yarn in the kits is all made from eco-friendly Pima cotton, and the kits are available in Europe, the US, and Canada. If you’re still not too confident in your crafting skills,  don’t fret: We Are Knitters provides a number of video tutorials, patterns, techniques and tips published in English, Spanish, German, Italian, and French. No matter what your level, we predict you’ll definitely get hooked on this new hobby!
