Celebrity engagement rings are truly inspiring! Here’s how to get the look – sustainably!
By Diane Small
When we get engaged, let’s face it – we feel like a bit of a princess. A princess who has landed her Prince Charming, and who has a shot at happily ever after.
And that’s true whether you’re a celebrity, a ‘civilian’, or an actual princess. I mean, everyone from Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Diana to Jennifer Lopez have sported some of the most iconic engagement rings ever! And while literally none of those poor female celebrities have had a ‘happily ever after’, they have still inspired many couples in terms of celebrity engagement rings to copy.
While the style of your ring is important, so is its ethics! Blood diamonds are still a thing, and there’s no doubt that mining of any kind is devastating to the earth. So here’s what you should know in terms of finding a sustainable stone for your celebrity inspired engagement ring.
What To Look For In A Sustainable Engagement Ring
Natural diamonds are famously the only gemstone made of a single element, carbon. They’re formed under high temperature and pressure conditions for billions of years, hundreds of miles beneath the Earth’s surface.
But there are alternatives, thanks to modern science!
As their name suggests, lab grown diamonds are those that have been created in a laboratory using advanced technology. Namely, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT). These methods are meant to mimic the natural process of diamond formation.
While lab made diamonds do save the earth from the devastation that is mining, they do still have some impact on the environment through the energy used to make them. Natural diamonds, though occurring in nature, impact the environment and societies much, much more negatively.
Ultimately, there are pros and cons to each type of gemstone, so the choice as to which one is more sustainable depends on what is most important to the wearer.
If you do choose a ‘natural’ diamond, ensure it carries a reputable certification, such as CanadaMark or Kimberley Certification.
But in all honesty, the best diamonds in terms of sustainability are, in order of ‘greenness’:
- antique, recycled or upcycled stones
- lab grown diamonds
- certified ‘natural’ diamonds
Interestingly, the only celebrity below who we’d say is environmentally conscious is Millie Bobby Brown. And no surprises that her ring is also the most sustainable one!
The Most Popular Celeb Engagement Rings
1. Crazy In Love For Bey’s Ring
Beyoncé’s engagement ring is nothing short of iconic, much like the star herself. After all, she did sing about putting a ring on it! And Jay-Z most certainly obliged. This celebrity engagement ring features an 18ct emerald cut diamond set on a split shank band made of platinum. It’s valued at an estimated £3.5 million (around $5m), because, after all, it’s Queen Bey. The clean lines of the emerald cut are classic, while the split shank adds a contemporary twist, balancing her pop power with her natural grace.

The Reverie, Trinity or Symphony rings from the Taylor & Hart collection could embody the feel of this irreplaceable heirloom. Rather than flaunting it regularly, Beyoncé usually one wears the ring for special occasions, which only adds to its mystique. After all, she wouldn’t want it flying off the stage during a dance break to Texas Hold ‘Em, right?
2. Millie’s Demagorgeous Heilroom Ring
Millie Bobby Brown has been a household name ever since she telepathically burst onto the scene in Stranger Things. She grew up before the public’s eyes, then met and fell in love with Jake Bongiovi. Yes, the son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi.
Millie’s dazzling engagement ring is a family heirloom. We love that! There’s seriously nothing more sustainable than recycling a ring, right? Hers features a cushion cut diamond set within a halo of smaller diamonds.
The dazzling centre stone, estimated to be between 3-3.5ct, is perched on a pavé band, turning the sparkle factor up to eleven. This gorgeous celebrity engagement ring might be pre-loved. But it still follows several key trends in jewellery, which means it slots in perfectly with those who covet her style.

While some celebrities opt for unique stones, diamonds remain the classic symbol of love and commitment. The combination of a round or cushion cut diamond with a halo setting is another popular trend, offering a mix of vintage and contemporary. Additionally, Millie’s ring aligns with the rising popularity of mixing classic and modern elements.
While not everyone has a family heirloom, putting one’s own spin on a ring like the Allure, could start a whole new tradition for generations to come.
3. Only Love In The Building
The end of 2024 was rather great for Selena Gomez. Her beauty brand was soaring to new heights, she received two Golden Globe nominations, and, to top it off, her partner, Benny Blanco, proposed. From the breathtaking ring to all the A-listers sending their congratulations, this whirlwind romance proves that when the heart wants what it wants, it sure gets it.
It’s a rare, single marquise diamond, estimated to be at least five carats. The Midas touch of the 18ct gold band is amped up with 0.10ct diamonds that create an eternity effect. The marquise cut’s intricate facets represent the many layers of a relationship, the joy, the growth and even the occasional chaos, which is inevitable in their line of work. Not to mention that regal element, fitting for Hollywood royalty.

Much like Taylor & Hart’s Thyme design, the centre stone sits on a yellow gold diamond pavé eternity band. Its faceted cut catches the light in ways that show a love story told in sparkles. But the Dulcet ring is a dead ringer for Selena’s stunning piece.
A marquise cut is always a marvellous choice for anyone looking to blend elongating qualities with a soft pinch of regal flair.
4. Going Gaga For Gaga’s Ring
Lady Gaga’s engagement ring from her new fiancé, Michael Polansky, deserves a round of applause. It features a sizeable oval cut diamond, set on an 18ct white and rose gold diamond pavé band with natural pink ombré diamonds with a white diamond halo.
Since announcing their engagement in the summer of 2024, Gaga has given fans glimpses of her breathtaking ring, including at the Venice International Film Festival and on the Grammys red carpet.

Though not many mere mortals can achieve the exact carat weight that Mother Monster sports, the Aurora ring could emulate the megawatt star-is-born power. Especially when paired with a more affordable and environmentally conscious lab diamond!
5. A Ring Upgrade Courtesy Of A Baby, Baby, Baby
Some couples enjoy celebrating milestones with anniversary rings or newer versions of their wedding or engagement rings. After all, it’s a known fact that during a long-lasting relationship, one falls in love over and over again. Each time, with the same person, of course!
In the weeks leading up to Justin and Hailey Bieber’s July 2018 engagement, the pop star closely collaborated with his jeweller of choice. He commissioned a custom piece that would soon set style pages and Pinterest boards alight.
Justin had a hand in selecting the diamond and put significant thought into the ring’s design. It boasts a sizeable oval cut diamond, estimated to be between 6 and 10 carats. It’s all set on a delicate 18 carat gold band. It’s minimalistic, it’s classy, and it reflects Hailey’s style to a tee.
But after the announcement of their baby joy, Bieber bestowed the Mrs. with a whole new ring. Hailey’s newer ring, though similar in design to her first one, with a four-prong setting and yellow gold band, features a significantly larger, elongated oval cut diamond, estimated to be around 10ct. The new ring’s value is thought to be between $1- $1.5 million.

Love the look of a large – but elegant – diamond? The Hope ring is similar to Hailey’s first engagement piece.
Celebrities have long been a source of inspiration. Their fashion choices, beauty looks, and even the places they choose to visit have become ever more covetable and oft-recreated. Because of their aspirational influence, it stands to reason that whatever they wear to symbolise their engagement would bring so many different jewellery trends to the forefront of popular culture.
It’s always exciting seeing what they do next!
