Beautiful. Brilliant. Accomplished. Successful. These are only a few of the adjectives appropriate to describe Amal Clooney – nee Alamuddin. This modern female icon is an exceptional combination of beauty and brains who became one of the most envied women on the planet when she married film star George Clooney in 2014 – but frankly, we think HE is the lucky one!
Amal Clooney may be naturally gorgeous with her wide-set chestnut eyes and statuesque figure topped by a shock of raven hair, but she is a fiercely intelligent, principled successful barrister and humanitarian lawyer. She has famously represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as well as defending human rights around the world, including defending persecuted Yazidi Women in their fight for justice. How truly awesome is that?
What’s more, Amal and George Clooney have also founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice to advance justice around the world as well as supporting many other charities.
Seriously, Amal Clooney gives new meaning to the term Girl Boss – she is an amazing role model to all women, and is also a supporter of ethical fashion, having been pictured in sustainable brands like Stella McCartney and S-Dress.
Charlotte Tilbury creates most of Amal’s classic ‘Hollywood starlet’ makeup looks, which usually feature rosy lips, strong eyes and a subtle shimmer, but if you’d like to recreate this elegant Amal Clooney makeup look for yourself at home using organic and natural beauty products, just follow the few simple steps below.
Start with Skin
Great skin is the foundation for a good makeup job (pun intended), so start with some serious skincare. Ms Clooney is apparently a huge fan of going for beauty treatments. She loves getting facials and a good face massagerr, but you can do that at home with a great machine yourself! Check this list out for some good options.
After you prep your skin by aiding the circulation there, clean out the pores with a great mask to cleanse and revitalise the skin. One celeb favourite comes from Uma Oils. This easy to use premium brightening mask, especially designed to deliver intense hydration deeper into the skin.
While the mask is working for 10-15 minutes, get your hair ready.
Rough dry your hair after washing, then make like Amal and create a defined side part about a palm’s width above your ear. This is a much more flattering part for most faces than say, a centre part.
Spritz some Original & Mineral Thickening Spray to your hair and create big barrel curls using your favorite heated styling tool or rollers. Take large sections, curl then set in a downwards direction. Clip each curl into place to set. Tip: Make sure to drag the top sections a bit over towards your ear so you don’t create too much volume on the top of your head.
Remove the mask and pat on some Supermood Moisture Kick Serum before massaging in a great makeup primer like Hynt Beauty’s to create a solid base for what you’re about to apply. The serum is designed to lift dull skin while the primer will plump skin for a smooth, healthy glow, ready for makeup.
Fluid foundation is a must for healthy, radiant-looking skin on the Red Carpet, and Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Flawless Foundation Serum is a perfect base for this makeup. The finish is a sophisticated soft matte that makes everyone look amazing – just choose the right shade for your skin tone.
To brighten around the eyes, use a tiny bit of Hynt Duet Concealer dotted on the inside of the bridge of the nose and then blend by patting outwards towards the outer corner of the eye. Swipe whatever is left on your finger under the eyebrows for added highlight.
This look is characterised by luminous skin, so working with creams and multi-sticks will give life and dimension to the skin.
We may not all have Amal’s sculpted cheekbones, but you can get them with a little makeup magic: First, swipe Ilia multi-use stick in Sway under the cheekbones for a soft contour (no Instagram baked stripes here!) and highlight the top the cheekbones with RMS Magic Luminizer.
Add a wash of natural colour by blending Vapour Aura multi-stick on the cheeks. For a professional finish, apply 2 colours: Try Eros as a blusher all over the cheek and dab a bit of the brighter colour like Cheeky or Courtesan to the tops of the apples for a pretty and youthful look. Warmer tones, try Hush + Dotti Bette’s Bold Beige
Amal’s main feature is her strong, intense eyes. She starts her look by enhancing the natural arch of her brows by blending in a brow product like CocoKind Brow Balm, then uses an angled or flat brush plus an eyebrow powder like Bae Blu to fill in and shape her brows. Once done, brush brows up and over. Then start the eye colour.
Begin by patting a neutral ivory tone all over the lid as a base Try the 100% Pure Naked Palette. Then, apply a great, non-smear mascara like Kjaer Weis’s on your top and bottom lashes – but note that Amal likely has a few fake lashes applied to the outer corners of her eyes. Tip: If you really want to add volume without using false lashes, apply 3 coats of mascara (yup, I said 3)! Just be sure to comb your lashes out between coats.
Finally, Amal lines only her upper lid with a liquid black liner. Try Juice Beauty’s Precision Eye Liner in black.
Prep lips with a sugar scrub to smooth and soften and then apply some rich lip balm. For an extra special exfoliation treatment try Eminence Citrus Enzyme Lip Exfoliator, followed by my favourite balm, Dr Lipp Lip balm.
Amal usually wears a customised plum/red colour, which is flattering for everyone and is a modern alternative to the classic red. She also loves a rosy pinks for her day look. To get her Red Carpet lip tone, try Kjaer Weis Lipstick in KW Red for a classic rose-red that matches most skin tones, or go for the Empower shade if you’re after more of a pink-petal hue.
Brush out your curls and smooth the ends under with a drop (literally, a small drop, warmed in your palms to smooth the ends) of Tabitha James Kraan Scented Organic Hair Oil for shine and a glamorous finish. Pin behind the ears for a sexy profile and finish with John Masters Hair Spray to keep your locks in place all night long.
