Ever notice how after you leave the hair salon, you just want to shake and flip your hair at all who pass by? Beauty rituals make us feel good. They give us confidence. But when we’re stuck inside for any reason – bad weather, quarantine, feeling under the weather – we tend to neglect self-care, which has a knock-on effect: we then look at ourselves in the mirror and feel even lower.
When you get that feeling, you should know it’s time to get proactive and engage in a few beauty rituals that lift your spirits! And I guarantee that if you do one, you’ll start to feel – and look – so much better, you may try another. And another.

10 Beauty Rituals To Boost Your Mood
1. Make the perfect detox brew – and drink it each morning
For most of us, dashing out the door to work each morning means we’re lucky if we can stop off at the local coffee shop for a takeaway drink before hitting our desks. But coffee is acidic, and definitely isn’t the best thing to gulp down first thing in the morning. Instead, if you make a warm cup of purified water and add a dash of lemon or lime, this has an alkaline effect on your body, and carries various health benefits, including reducing inflammation and boosting immunity.
Alternatively, try a shot of apple cider vinegar in water (I like to add a dash of stevia) for the same benefits. After a week of doing this, your skin should look brighter, you should have more energy, and feel healthier! You’ll also feel better knowing you’re doing something good for your body every day.
2. Give yourself a facial
Facials are so relaxing when done in a salon – I’ve drifted off many a time! Giving yourself one means you’re more active and less chill, but the results are the same. Here are the basic steps to follow:
Step 1: Cleanse your face with whatever product you usually use
Step 2: Fill up a bowl with near-boiling water. Place your face around 6 inches above, drape a towel over your head, and steam
Step 3: Gently exfoliate your face with a natural facial scrub. Use this opportunity to give your face a nice massage. Rinse off
Step 4: Apply the facial mask of your choice. Rinse off after the allotted time
Step 5: Apply your favourite moisturiser.
Done! Your skin should now be glowing!
3. Practice self-massage
While massaging yourself isn’t exactly easy, there is one type you can do – and it brings great benefits! - Remove any polish you may have on
- Soak your feet or hands in some nice, warm, sudsy water
- Push back the cuticles on your nails with an orange stick
- Exfoliate your whole foot or hand with a nice scrub. Rinse off.
- Trim and file your nails
- Apply your favourite nail polish. Let dry, and apply a second coat
- Apply a topcoat and let dry.

5. Take the perfect bath

7. Get fit at home
