Feeling stressed out? A bit depressed? Try these beauty rituals that lift your spirits!
Ever notice how after you leave the hair salon, you just want to shake and flip your hair at all who pass by? Beauty rituals make us feel good. They give us confidence. But when we’re stuck inside for any reason – bad weather, quarantine, feeling under the weather – we tend to neglect self-care, which has a knock-on effect: we then look at ourselves in the mirror and feel even lower.
When you get that feeling, you should know it’s time to get proactive and engage in a few beauty rituals that lift your spirits! And I guarantee that if you do one, you’ll start to feel – and look – so much better, you may try another. And another.

10 Beauty Rituals To Boost Your Mood
1. Make the perfect detox brew – and drink it each morning
For most of us, dashing out the door to work each morning means we’re lucky if we can stop off at the local coffee shop for a takeaway drink before hitting our desks. But coffee is acidic, and definitely isn’t the best thing to gulp down first thing in the morning. Instead, if you make a warm cup of purified water and add a dash of lemon or lime, this has an alkaline effect on your body, and carries various health benefits, including reducing inflammation and boosting immunity.
Alternatively, try a shot of apple cider vinegar in water (I like to add a dash of stevia) for the same benefits. After a week of doing this, your skin should look brighter, you should have more energy, and feel healthier! You’ll also feel better knowing you’re doing something good for your body every day.
2. Give yourself a facial
Facials are so relaxing when done in a salon – I’ve drifted off many a time! Giving yourself one means you’re more active and less chill, but the results are the same. Here are the basic steps to follow:
Step 1: Cleanse your face with whatever product you usually use
Step 2: Fill up a bowl with near-boiling water. Place your face around 6 inches above, drape a towel over your head, and steam
Step 3: Gently exfoliate your face with a natural facial scrub. Use this opportunity to give your face a nice massage. Rinse off
Step 4: Apply the facial mask of your choice. Rinse off after the allotted time
Step 5: Apply your favourite moisturiser.
Done! Your skin should now be glowing!
3. Practice self-massage
While massaging yourself isn’t exactly easy, there is one type you can do – and it brings great benefits! According to Genetix Organics, lymphatic massage of the breasts is an essential tool to have in your holistic arsenal, as it supports and heals breast tissue, preventing toxic build-up and helping to clear toxins from the breasts.
This act of self-love is innately soothing and healing, and encourages the body to emit anti-aging hormones such as prolactin, oxytocin, and estrogen. As an additional bonus, regular breast massage promotes perky, full breasts and prevents sagging as it tightens and tones the tendons and muscles of the breasts. 4. Give yourself the best mani/pedi ever
Even if no one is seeing your fingers or toes, you do, every day! Give yourself something pretty to look at via a DIY manicure or pedicure. Just follow these easy steps:
- Remove any polish you may have on
- Soak your feet or hands in some nice, warm, sudsy water
- Push back the cuticles on your nails with an orange stick
- Exfoliate your whole foot or hand with a nice scrub. Rinse off.
- Trim and file your nails
- Apply your favourite nail polish. Let dry, and apply a second coat
- Apply a topcoat and let dry.
There! Don’t you feel a bit prettier already?
5. Take the perfect bath
A bath is the perfect way to destress! Get out some bath oils, your favourite towels, a loofah, and a face cloth. Turn on some relaxing tunes. Make the water the perfect temperature. Light some candles, slip in, and say ahhh! Want a few more tips for setting up the ideal bath? Click here!
6. Try out some new hairstyles
Let’s face it – most of us wear the same hairstyle day in, day out. Mainly because trying new ones takes time, trial and error, and imagination. Now that you’ve got some time on your hands, why not give a new ‘do a chance? We’ve got some great ideas here.
7. Get fit at home
Sure, it’s more motivating to do a hardcore workout when you’re surrounded by peers in Lycra at the gym. But there are loads of ways to get fit at home, too! Double down on arms and/or abs, or follow a yoga class online that suits your level. We’ve got some fab fitness ideas for you here!
8. Whiten your teeth the homemade way
You don’t need to visit the dentist to have brighter, whiter teeth. In fact, there are all kinds of home remedies for this that have been used – successfully – throughout the ages! Click here for a few easy, cheap and effective ideas.
9. Deep condition your hair
Again, this is another beauty ritual we all know we should be doing – but honestly, who has the time to sit with a conditioner on for half an hour or more? Until now, that is! Since we all have so much time on our hands, why not follow these recipes for homemade conditioners? Make it, slap it on, put a shower cap over it, enjoy some Netflix, then rinse off. Voila!
10. Try facial yoga
Some say it’s better than Botox, as facial yoga tones muscles (while Botox allows them to slack). The only caveat? You need to do this regularly to see results. Oh, and you might look a bit funny while doing these exercises! But they’re worth it. Want to get started? Click here for some exercises!
11. Take time to breathe
What gives people wrinkles? Frowning! And relaxed people don’t frown.
Breathing is a way to relax your muscles, infuse your body with oxygen, and build up your immune system. One of the best – and easiest – breathing techniques comes from ‘the Iceman’, Wim Hof. It only takes 10 minutes a day, and it will make you feel GREAT! Just follow along with the video below.
