You know when you kiss a kid or your boyfriend, and there’s that intimate smell of skin, fresh air, and summer? This unique perfume by One Seed aims to capture that scent. “Seeker” features fresh greens and delicate mossy notes entwined with milky coconut, vanilla and the scent of salt on damp skin to create what for me, is one of the definitive smells of summer.
Using only 100% natural ingredients, 80% of these are actually organic, meaning you truly will smell sweetly natural!
What could be more summer fresh than a simple rose perfume? This one by Neal’s Yard blends hundred petalled and damask roses with organic rose geranium, organic cedarwood and pink pepper to create a beautifully subtle, natural scent that’s truly classically feminine.
Available for a limited time only, this all natural perfume by Amayori is built on a lovely concept: ‘Yusuzumi’. This Japanese term refers to the act of enjoying the cool of the evening after a hot summer’s day.
With its base of camellia oil and hints of lemon, lemongrass, ylang ylang and a touch of jasmine, Amayori’s Summer Breeze Perfume Oil Roller evokes a soft Kyoto breeze in Japanese garden, and the roller format of the perfume is perfect for keeping in your bag, at your desk, for travel, bedside, or any other time you want a quick and easy fragrance ritual experience.
4. Florascent Umami
Summer is all about the heat, and this perfume by Florascent is truly warming. Using only natural and essential oils for their aromas, this Umami perfume is gorgeous and slightly spicy. Key notes here are organic vanilla, Yuzu, with the sweet edge softened by the addition of peppery pimento and ginger. It all comes housed in a clean, simple gold and purple spray bottle encased in a matching tube.
For me, green will always be the colour–and scent–of summer. Growing up in Canada, I remember the scent of cedars and pines near the shores of the lake where we had a cottage, and of course, nothing was lovelier than playing on a lawn of freshly cut grass.
This all-natural and rather ‘green’ perfume by new brand DoubleYou evokes all those scents, and more: imagine sitting on fresh grass and coriander in the middle of a sandalwood forest whilst eating a vanilla ice cream, and you might get an idea of what this ideal summer scent is like.
When I heard about this on Twitter, I became really, really excited. I LOVE Tuberose, as it takes me back to when my husband was courting me in Argentina. There was some tuberose in the neighbour’s garden, and he used to nick a few buds for me–it was the most exotic thing I’d ever smelled, and still reminds me of those romantic days (and nights!).
To try to revive those memories, I used to wear a Tuberose scent by Estee Lauder, but frankly, the wicked headache it gave me (and others, sometimes) was totally not worth the pleasure of the aroma. Lucky me, then, to find this gorgeous perfume by Organic Pharmacy, which (unlike Estee Lauder’s product) contains no nasty, headache inducing chemicals–in fact, it’s mostly pure organic ingredients and oils. This perfume is a new favourite: it brings all the lush pleasure of fresh, green Rosewood notes, followed by Rose and Jasmine, finishing with a lovely Tuberose that lasts and lasts.
This pure, botanical perfume embraces the purity of exotic Madagascar Vanilla. After I sprayed this from the lavish atomiser onto my pulse points, I felt an immediate, calming effect for some reason, and was delighted that finally, I had found a vanilla scent that’s doesn’t remind me of a bakery, thanks to the scent being infused with natural botanical essential oils including aloe and rosemary extract, to counter the sweetness of the vanilla top notes. But it’s not only the scent that is beautiful here, it’s also the idea behind its creation: it is named in honour of the lovely model, Tara Mackey who created the perfume in collaboration with Delizioso Skincare, 5% of all proceeds are donated to Cancer Research in Canada, in honour of Tara’s father, who succumbed to the disease.
This German brand bases its scents on the ancient healing power of aromatherapy. Using 100% natural essences from organically farmed flowers and plants, Lichtjuwel claims that its various scents are able to charge the air up with different energies. Rather than being worn on the body as a perfume is, these are more like ‘clouds’ that you spray around you–a unique concept that’s as far from a chemical ‘room freshener’ as you can get.
There’s a fragrance for every mood, but one I keep coming back to time and time again is called ‘Ruhe’. Its main notes are earthy geranium, calming lavender and refreshing bergamot–all perfect for spraying around your yoga mat to clear your mind and ground you before a session.
This one is definitely a rich hippy favourite–the main ingredient is apparently, Love, followed closely by camellia oil, bergamot, and rather controversially, cardamom, which gives this slightly sweet perfume a spicy tang. Ylang ylang and juniper are also present, as are tiny quartz chips, gem and flower essences, colour rays, sacred symbols, mantras and sound, all designed with aromatherapy’s healing properties in mind–this time, to help you heal the body, and feel comfortable in the skin you’re in.
Though it’s one of the most common fruits in Europe, there’s something highly sophisticated about fig scents, and this one by Pacifica is no exception. Earth meets the Sea in this green, full-bodied blend made with notes of fig, moss, close and cyclamen, all set in a luscious Sandalwood base. Sensuous and complex, it’s a wonderfully imaginative take on a classic fig scent.
This is far from a single note scent. In fact, jasmine sambac, fir absolute, and yuzu create a richness reminiscent of ripe black figs. It’s a very clever sleight-of-hand based on a rare, almost fruity lavender from Spain, paired with the sweet, jammy fir absolute. Other notes include a pink pepper base and a pink grapefruit top note. The perfume is 100% natural, of course, but the best part is that you can buy this in solid form in a piece of custom ordered antique jewellery, like this beautiful pocket watch.
