It’s that time of year, when the glitterati gather in the south of France for the world’s most feted film festival: Cannes. Having accommodated the creme de la creme of the movie industry for decades, the area has no lack of lavish hotels from which to choose. But only one is truly eco-friendly.

Ideally located on the Croisette and alongside the French Riviera, the Hotel Majestic Barriere exudes luxury, attracting tourists and celebrities alike. With over 349 rooms, 82 suites, and 2 luxury penthouses, (one of which was decorated by famed designer Christian Dior) it’s lavish accommodations, striking architecture, and eco-friendly design just add to the experience that the Hotel Majestic Barriere has to offer.

The hotel definitely doesn’t cut corners on providing guests with a high quality dining. Bertrand Schmitt is the renowned  Head Chef at all three of the restaurants at the the Hotel Majestic Barriere in Cannes. Known for his blend of traditional yet creative cuisine, Schmitt credits his exceptional dishes to his strict requirements for choosing only the freshest, locally-grown, organic ingredients. His selective process for the finest, mainly local, produce allows him to incorporate bright and flavourful fruits and vegetables that wow his restaurants’ guests time and time again.

Chef Schmitt’s dedication to giving guests nothing but the best is mirrored throughout the rest of the hotel’s amenities, as well as the Lucien Barrière  corporation as a whole. Lucien Barrière Hà´tel are well-known for providing guests with a 5-star experience while still remaining friendly to the environment.

In 2011, their location in Paris was named the #1 most luxurious eco-friendly hotel by AOL. Similar to the menus at the Majestic, their restaurants at the Fouquet location boast fresh, organically grown produce. The Lucien Barrière company is also known for donating to GoodPlanet, a foundation that supports the research and implementation of green living.

To encourage environmental responsibility, most of the Lucien Barrière hotels in France have even gone through the process of getting certified for their green efforts. Participating in the Clef Verte (Green Key) program, they are registered as Green/ Sustainable Properties. In order to be registered as a Green/ Sustainable Property, the Clef Verte requires that they meet a strict guidelines, including, “Economical management by the reduction of consumption meaning a reduction of costs,” and, “Environmental preservation by the reduction of the environmental impact of each establishment in the world scene.” Hotels also have to educate their “staff, clients and owners towards increased sustainable development and environmental awareness in leisure establishments.”

One of the biggest ways that the Hà´tel Majestic Barrière encouraged “eco-friendly fun” was through the development of their private beach. Recently the hotel unveiled their new private beach area for guests, designed by famed architect Jean-Philippe Nuel. The beach contains over 400 loungers, parasols, and plenty of room for roaming along the Mediterranean’s edge. Best of all, in order to keep with their dedication to green living, Nuel and management made sure that all construction materials were strictly eco-friendly.

While their dedication to being eco-friendly is honorable, with all the extravagance and excitement at the hotels, it might be something you overlook. The Le Croisette Casino Barrière in Cannes has hundreds of table and slot games open to the public, and they regularly play host to exclusive gambling tournaments and events. Toward the end of each May, there is the WPT National at the Majestic’s Le Croisette Casino Barrière de Cannes.

Gamblers from around the world gather here, and to revamp the casino vibe, newer, younger music is being played in the casinos. In fact, it’s become a bit of a trend for the world’s most known gamblers to  publish their playlists to inspire players  to stay up longer and play harder.

With an exciting night-life, grand accommodations, and a dedication to eco-friendly quality, the Hà´tel Majestic Barrière in Cannes has something for everyone. The perfect location for a romantic getaway or a fun family holiday, your experience at the Hà´tel Majestic will be something you and your guests won’t soon forget.
