When most people think of Scandinavia, three things come to mind: minimalist design, nature and social responsibility. Nordgreen watches combines these key characteristics into one new, ethical accessories brand.
The Copenhagen based company embodies clean, cool aesthetics in its classic designs for men and women. They feature which feature interchangeable straps, making it easier to adapt the watch to suit your outfit, mood, personality, and ethics: there are two vegan band options made from mesh or nylon.
Nordgreen’s sleek designs are the result of a partnership with renowned Danish designer Jakob Wagner, the Chief Designer of the new watch brand. Wagner has previously collaborated with brands such as Bang & Olufsen, and Cappellini, and his work has received numerous awards, even being featured as part of a permanent exhibition at MOMA in New York.
Jakob says this of his designs for the watch brand: “When a design is completely right, when it reflects the most simple expression of an idea, the point where nothing can be added nor removed – that’s the point when a design achieves its integrity. When this happens, a special bond is created between the human and the object, which makes us happier for every time we interact with it”.
These watches are undoubtedly stylish, unisex and versatile. But what really sold us on Nordgreen was their social values.
Whether you’d like to help children or save the rain forests, Nordgreen’s Giving Back Programme allows you to give back to one of the three noble causes:
- 2 months of clean water to a child in Central Africa
- 2 months of education to a child in India Preserve
- 200 square ft of rain forest in Latin America
A unique serial number etched on the back of each watch allows Nordgreen to track the impact that each donation has given their customers added value by promoting ethical buying within the fashion arena.
The watches make a wonderful gift to a socially and environmentally conscious friend or family member, and if you buy one for yourself, every time you check the hour, you’ll be reminded that you’ve made a small but positive contribution to a cause close to your heart.
