Suitcase Confidential: Eco-Fashionistas Pack for Summer

By Diane Small

We’ve all messed it up before. Brought too much; taken too little. Packed only summer clothes, forgetting the evenings can be chilly. Relied on the hotel’s shampoos and been disappointed when they’re vile. Forgotten sunblock and been forced to buy it at double the price in the hotel shop…the list goes on!

To help you prevent future packing disasters, we’ve asked 6 top eco-fashionistas to share what they’ve packed in their suitcases this summer.

1. Editor Jemima Bradley

Although Jemima ensures she’s got a summer glow with her Dr Hauschka Tinted Day Cream and Dr Jackson Body Perfecting gel, she forgoes the facial sunblock in favour of a stylish straw hat. She’s also sure to Sophie La Graff baby  skincare products  to care for the skin of her little one. We LOVE the fringed Stella McCartney tee she takes on holiday–perfect with a pair of roomy, soft boyfriend jeans. Finally, she takes an organic NEOM scented candle to lend any hotel room a little touch of home.

2. Alicia Taylor, Founder of Gather & See

It’s no surprise that this fashionista would select some of the best from her own eco-chic online shop! That would include the very covetable Upstate Amalfi tie-dye maxi dress (which we want desperately!) and a Pembe Tabu bikini (which we know Alicia certainly has the bod for!). We love that she’s chosen to take a Garcia Marquez novel along–nothing evokes the romance of the tropics more than one of his many classics, and she says “Love in the Time of Cholera” is one of her all-time faves.

3. Andrea Kolb, Founder of Abury Designs

Ms Kolb is a major world traveller and we suspect her suitcase gets an awful lot of wear! Andrea has chosen to take not one, but two books–probably because she has an awful lot of plane time to kill. She also recommends packing in monochrome–the outfits she chose from Made by Voz and Umasan can be dressed up or down and mixed and matched with jumpers or accessories to create new looks every day. Like Jemima, Andrea is a fan of Dr Hauschka, and uses their milky cleanser to take off cabin grime.

4. Stephanie Hogg, Founder of Gather & See

We adore Stephanie’s choice of weekender bag by Mercado Global–it not only goes with her staple Alex Dress perfectly, but it matches this Boho babe’s personal style perfectly. And speaking of personal style, check out the adorable beach towels she’ll be lounging on! Much more stylish than whatever the hotel has on offer; no wonder she’s chosen to sell them on her ethical online retail platform too. Finally, it’s good to see that Stephanie is protecting her skin with an organic block–Korres factor 50, no less.

5. Veryan Raiker, Fashion Designer

This is one lady who likes to stay a bit made up, even on holiday. A lashing of Dr Hauschka‘s organic mascara, loads of pure coconut and almond oil for her skin and a dab of Lush’s Honey Trap balm and she’s good to go! Of course she takes a versatile race-back dress of her own design, and though she definitely relaxes on holiday, should any new design ideas pop into her head, she jots them down in a notebook–made from recycled paper, of course!

6. Hannah Lane, Redress Asia

In her role as one of the key figures behind Redress Asia and their EcoChic Design Awards, Hannah travels to Hong Kong frequently for work, so she’s become something of an expert packer. She takes her Matt&Nat vegan bag with her everywhere, and ensures her handbag, as well as her core accessories and separates, are in neutral shades so she can maximise the numbers of looks she gets from her luggage. Whilst on the plane, Hannah makes sure she’s got a good book (in this case, The First Bad Man by Miranda July) and some organic hand cream by Mary White.
