10 Hot Vegan Fashion Trends For Winter

By Noa Ben Moshe

You may think I’m nuts, but you have no idea how much I’ve been waiting for this moment- fall and winter are officially here! Winter may not be everybody’s favourite season, but I am so ready for long evenings in-home with cozy pajamas, occasional walks in the park with a stop at a local cafe for a hot vegan chai latte, and of course, I am ready to rock all the super chic vegan fashion trends for winter!

In this, my first column for Eluxe (woop woop!), I’d like to share with you some of the hottest vegan trends for the season, based on fashion catwalks, and what I’ve seen in the vegan shops.

1. Cork Fabrics

I wrote a whole article about this super chic, sustainable and eco-friendly material in my blog, and I love it so much, I could ramble on about it all day if you’ll let me. Cork is one of the most eco-friendly renewable resources on the planet. And don’t think you’re hurting trees by using it; every time cork is harvested, the tree absorbs more CO2 to aid in the bark regeneration process. This means regularly harvested cork trees store three to five times more CO2 than those left unharvested. Interesting, right? One cork item I love in particular is my cork jacket- it is so unique and makes such a beautiful eco-friendly fashion statement. But I admit it’s not so easy to find one! Instead, bags are much more readily available.

2. Vegan Ankle Boots

Stylish and wearable, ankle boots seem to have always been around. But this winter in particular, we can see ankle boots all over the streets and runways alike. They can be effortlessly paired with skirts, culottes, and floaty dresses. The most popular design this season is probably the pointed toe, heeled boot, which is very flattering and gives the illusion of longer legs.

Shop the look: Some of my personal favorite ankle boots are the Love Sofie Nice, seen below.

3. Knee High Boots

If we’re talking about legs for days, you need to get yourself some knee high boots. Whilst these are hot for this winter, it seems these beauties come back into style year after year. They aren’t only super chic and easy to style, but also very practical and can elevate almost every outfit. With a good pair of boots and thermals underneath, I can wear my summer dresses, mini skirts or jumper dresses during fall and winter, and get more use out of what I already own.

Shop the look: I love this knee high style from Nae Vegan (they’re called the Chere Boot, since they were designed by Eluxe’s editor, Chere Di Boscio).

4. Leopard Print

Leopard print is something I had always stayed away from. It just didn’t feel like ‘me’. But I decided to slowly incorporate it into my wardrobe, and now I find it to be such a fun print to style, especially during winter. If you are going to invest in one leopard print item, go for a loose skirt that will never go out of style!

Shop the look: My skirt isn’t available online, but this one is quite similar. I also adore this reclaimed vintage leopard print sweater, which you get online here.

5. Circular Bags

Interesting yet sophisticated, classic yet current – circular bags  had a serious moment last summer, and they’re definitely continuing into fall and winter. No matter the occasion – a day at the beach, going to the office or even attending a wedding – chances are circular bags will be the perfect fit.

Shop the look: My personal favorite is the Stella SM bag by Matt and Nat, seen below, but their Kiara style is also super chic.

6. Wool-Free Berets

This trend is one of my personal favorites! I wouldn’t even call it a trend, since the look is classic. Apart from making you feel like a chic Parisian (or Che Guevera, depending on your vibe!) they also keep your head warm, obvs.

Shop the look: Get a great wool-free beret (for a great price!) here.

7. Baker Boy Hats

Of all the vegan fashion trends, this may be my favourite! If you’re on Instagram, you’ve probably seen these hats in every second picture since last winter. This runway and street style-approved trend adds an edge to every outfit – and they’re the perfect solution for bad hair days! Make sure you check the label before buying a baker boy hat, as some of them are made using wool/leather, but not mine!

Shop the look: Get a vegan friendly baker boy hat like mine here.

8. Corduroy Jackets

Hello again, 1970’s! Corduroy has made a massive comeback, and this is no longer a hippy-exclusive fabric. Instead, it’s a global trend that’s been spotted on tons of celebrities, models and ‘it’ girls. If you want to invest in a corduroy jacket, you should definitely check your local thrift shop and get your hands on the real, vintage thing.

If you don’t get lucky in the retro shops, you can buy a pure cotton corduroy jacket like this one below here.

9. 50 Shades of…Nothing!

Colour is wonderful in summer – we want to dress in bright florals, or beachy corals. But winter is a more sombre season, and that’s why neutrals and monochrome are the way to go. This year, I’m seeing a lot of black, brown, taupe and cream. And I love it, because it goes with just about everything, and it’s super easy to mix and match with other items in my wardrobe.

Shop the look: This fluffy white sweater is a wardrobe staple that will look chic for decades.

10. Midi Skirts

Midi skirts can be styled in so many ways: we see them pop up on Instagram worn by street style legends, or by royals like the Duchess of Sussex, who likes hers pleated. This feminine, ballerina-like hemline looks great with a chunky knit and some ankle boots (or a sandal in summer), but if you want to make it a bit more casual, wear it with a pair of sneakers.

Shop the look: Seeking a gorgeous midi dress or skirt? Reformation has some of the best around! Check them out here.

Let me know what your favorite trend is this season in the comments!
