A Universe of Relaxation: AquaMoon Spa

By Chere Di Boscio

France is home to many pioneering beauty treatments, including the French manicure, the chignon bar, and mesotherapy, a rather tortuous anti-ageing technique that involves the injection of a cocktail of vitamins and other nutrients under the skin using needles. Also used for cellulite and fat reduction, Β  Β 1 or 2 treatments are recommended at 6 week intervals to tighten facial skin.

Though many French women swear by mesotherapy’s effectiveness, there are some caveats: for Lower Eye Belpharoplasty, for example, the patient should take cortisone prior to the procedure, and swelling could possibly last for up to 6 weeks. Generally the procedure is so painful that a topical anaesthetic is necessary, and there is always at least a few days of down time.

Aquamoon Spa, Paris, however, has come up with a brilliant alternative: SoftMeso.

Needle-Free Beauty Treatment

Rather than transferring nutrients to the skin via needles, a gentle electrical current is used instead to ensure the anti-ageing treatment is delivered far beyond the skin’s surface. The treatment serum that penetrates the epidermis is based on Swiss apple stem cells, which are proven to regenerate collagen and reduce redness.

I tried this treatment with Aquamoon’s specialised SoftMeso therapist, Virginie, who was professional, kind, and knowledgable.

She first asked me a few questions about my health, and actually paid attention to these, acknowledging that my tendencies towards asthma and allergies may mean my skin was more sensitive that most people’s. With this in mind, she removed all my makeup with a very gentle scrub, and then asked me to hold onto a wooden post. She then started applying the apple stem cells to my face, pressing a rounded baton with a low electrical current into my skin. This felt rather soothing, and was much less ‘electrified’ than a Caci treatment, for example. A low hum emitted from the machine almost lulled me to sleep.

Next, Virginie ‘locked in’ the treatment with cold–an icy baton was passed over my skin to allow my pores to shut over the treatment that was just applied. This certainly woke me up–it felt like a little ice cube was being dragged across my face!

The last step was a hydrating treatment, which was massaged in my Virginie’s expert touch. Β During the experience, Virginie confidently told me that I would see results ‘immediately’ and that these would last for up to five days. Frankly, I had my doubts–I had just flown for 12 hours before my appointment with her, and was dehydrated and exhausted–and this clearly reflected in my complexion.

But she was right.

Soft Meso: The Result

As I lifted myself up from the relaxing bed and blinked into the mirror, the dullness of my skin was completely removed; there was actually some radiant pink in my cheeks, as though I’d applied blusher, and my eyes, which were actually red and tearing from the cold before my arrival to the spa, were clear. I was delighted, and further so when Virginie invited me to stay and relax in the spa’s immaculate hammam, pool and relaxation areas.

I left a very pleased customer, sure I would return for the next three treatments which were necessary to ensure the results were long-lasting.
