Leonardo DiCaprio is fierce for many reasons, but he just added one more. The Great Gatsby star made a 3 million dollar donation to save the tigers of Nepal to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) via his charitable foundation.
This was a timely move—not only are Nepal’s tigers threatened by growing habitat destruction, but poaching has increased, too. Many believe this is because as the Chinese become wealthier, there is a higher demand for tiger bones and penises, which they believe increases fertility.
“His foundation is all about delivering real results for conservation on the ground and empowering local communities; nowhere is that more evident than in Nepal,” said Carter Roberts, president of the WWF.
Earlier this year, the DiCaprio Foundation raised a very impressive $38.8 million through donations and an art auction at Christie’s in New York. He also lives in ecologically friendly homes in the United States, refuses to fly via private jet, and despite his fame, he rides a bike around his home in New York whenever possible—you could say that when it comes to being ‘green’, no other star shows his stripes quite like DiCaprio.
