There’s no shortage of couture competition in hyper-bling Dubai, but Lebanese born, Dubai based designer Sohad Acouri is making himself stand out by being one of the few talented people in the region to incorporate sustainability into his work.
The designer admits it’s not always easy: “it is a challenge, but I believe there is always a way to be more sustainable,” he says.”I believe we all have a responsibility towards the planet we live in. Each contributes on their own front, way and ability. Personally, I concentrate on sourcing and using eco-friendly materials, recycling, and the use of natural fibres.”
The results of his work have not gone unnoticed by high society in the Middle East, but word of his creations has gone international, impressing both one former Miss Russia, Victoria Lopyreva, who is now one of Acouri’s muses, and fashion powerhouse Kimora Lee, who the designer clearly adores: “She is an amazing soul! A beautiful woman with an intrinsic style. When we met in Dubai, it was like we have known each other for a while and she agreed with my creations, which is a compliment and also shows the meeting of minds and agreement of souls. I look forward to seeing her soon,” he said with a clear fondness in his eyes.
Acouri’s brand has been steadily growing and now includes the White (bridal) collections, Pret a Porter and the Couture line. Eluxe Magazine will feature his work–accessorised with stunning jewels by Ana Katerina eco jewellery— in our first edition of 2015, but here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll see.
