How to Get Perfect Organic Wedding Makeup Looks

Look your best on your big day with these organic wedding makeup looks

By Sophia Hussain

Natural make-up provides the basis for perfect wedding makeup looks for ethical brides and their maids. It is timeless, universally flattering, and can be easily used. Although  most in the bridal party will opt to get their makeup done professionally, say “I do” to using skin-friendly organic and natural cosmetics and create your own look instead.

From skin-prep to the final lacquer application on your toes, use our tips below (with a few video tutorials thrown in!) to create universally flattering looks.

How To Get Perfect Organic Wedding Makeup Looks

Organic Wedding Makeup Looks

1. The Day Before: Start with Fresh Skin

Pamper your skin the day before the big day to exude natural radiance.  Make sure you don’t overindulge in sun, alcohol or junk food to ensure you’re truly glowing for the big day.

Use fast-absorbing dry oils for nourishing perfection.  Apply a few drops of Superseed Radiant Energy Organic Facial Oil by MàDARA, containing nine rare dry oils to give your face that youthful radiance.  Then hydrate the rest of your body with an exotic indulgence using vitamin E rich 100% Argan Oil by Alexander Sprekenhus.

Make sure you get a good night’s sleep before the wedding–this is truly the key to looking fresh and beautiful! Tossing and turning from nerves? A quick spray of Beauty Sleep Sweet Pillow Scent on your linen could help lead to  a blissful rest, thanks to the lavender essential oil to help calm nerves.

2. Prime It Up!

Prime your skin for your make-up application.  Apply a good moisturising product to plump any fine lines. I like Lumous face serum by Mia Hoyto, for firm toned skin allowing for better absorption of face cream.

For the body, All You Need is Me by True Organic of Sweden is a long-lasting moisturizing balm designed to soothe any last minute irritations or rashes that may have broken out thank to nerves. Perfect on cuticles and heels before a mani/pedi too. They also do a wonderful ‘undercover’ primer cream product called ‘Undercover Agent’ that smooths out any flaws in skin and preps your visage for the next makeup steps.

3. Get A Flawless Face

Create the perfect bridal canvas with a barely there neutral base. Using Nvey Eco makeup brushes (which are made from cruelty free brush hair, compostable handles made from corn resin, and recyclable aluminum ferrules)

Start with a powder foundation if your skin is a bit oily. I like Inika Mineral Powder Foundation is a 3-in-1 foundation, concealer and powder formulated with SPF15, which provides long-lasting coverage without clogging pores. Gently buff the foundation using circular motions to the entire face, to create an even-toned fresh-finish complexion. Remember to apply a thin veil of foundation to the eyelids and lips too.

Next, work on your flaws. For covering stubborn blemishes, use Dr. Hauschka Pure Care Cover Stick formulated with tea tree and manuka oils to reduce  the appearance of blemishes.  Gently dab the concealer over the blemishes, and blend with a non-latex sponge by bouncing it over the area.

For an illuminating effect or to help disguise dark shadows, apply Tunkal concealer by UND Gretel, starting from the inner eye corner, and extending towards the upper cheek.  Blend to perfection for a soft-focus luminous effect.

4. The ‘Blushing’ Bride

A natural flush is the traditional look for the ‘blushing bride’, so why not start with an ethereal flush? One good mineral blusher is the aptly named a Mineral Blusher by Barefaced Beauty.  This subtle light peachy-pink hue flatters all.  Dip a blusher brush into the pot, tap off excess powder off of the brush until there is just a faint dusting on the tips of the bristles.  Starting from the apples of the cheek, gently glide the brush, extending slightly above the brow bone to deposit the pigment hue.  No blending required with this version as it offers a natural sheer finish.

Prefer a creamier product? Then opt for a cream blush using Timeless Coral Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil by Josie Maran.  Apply a small dab to your middle fingers, work the product into your finger tips then gently tap it onto cheeks and blend for a smooth finish.

5. Hey, Bright Eyes!

Organic wedding makeup looks start with the perfect frame for your eyes: your brows. Make sure they are perfectly shaped and plucked, then grab a sharpened eyebrow pencil in the same shade of your brow, like Logona’s  all natural brow shapers.  Lightly feather in any missing fullness with tiny strokes, and gently blend in with a Q-Tip.

Now, curl your lashes using a goof-proof wide-grip Eyeko Lash Curler.  Eyeko’s tip: “using a mirror, position the curler close to the lash root, squeeze gently then release and carefully remove curler from eyes.” For extra drama, use their Eyelash Wardrobe faux eyelash extension kit and apply either a full set of thick, luscious lashes for full on sultriness, or just a few on the outer edges for a doe-eyed look. Once lashes are in place, make sure you apply mascara to not only the falsies, but to your own lashes too–this ensures your lashes fuse with the faux ones, and keeps the faux ones on longer.

Once lashes have been taken care of, blend neutral eyeshadow hues to perfection to ensure your eyes are really in focus. Try satin eyeshadows by Lisa Noto, which also prevents wrinkles since they are packed with antioxidants.

Apply Deep Java (matte brown hue) lightly across the eyelids with a designated eye shadow brush, and deepen the hue in the crease to add depth.  Next, blend Buttercream (a matte beige hue) onto the centre of the eyelids to create a 3D effect.  Finish off by applying Eye Honey (a light gold hue with delicate shimmer) to the brow bone, centre of the eyelids, and inner eye corner to add a star-lit twinkle to your eyes.

Prefer a doe-eyed effect? Apply two coats of Organic Glam Mascara in black to the upper eyelashes, then lashes once more to hold the curl.  For the evening reception, add fancy feline flicks applying Lavera Black Liquid Eyeliner. Done!

6. Luscious Lips

Whether it’s the groom, relatives or BFFs, there’ll be a lot of kissing on this day! So make sure you lipstick look is made to last.  First, line your lips with a lip pencil to provide long-lasting invisible hold.  This soft rose-hued Pink Double Lip Pencil by Logona Naturkosmetik, is an ingenious double-ended liner one end for pink hues whilst the other compliments mauve lipstick hues.

Now, be pretty in pink by wearing a universally flattering pink shade, like Forever Pink by Lisa Noto. This luxe rose hue in a cream finish is the perfect addition to your organic wedding makeup looks! It has a divine natural scent from the added essential oils, for delicate soft lips and works with just about any skin hue. Got golden undertones to your skin?  Tempt your true love with the aptly named Tempt by Vapour Organic, in this soft mauve hue.  The lipstick also doubles as a lip conditioner for long-lasting colour and nourished lips.

Prefer the wide-eyed, innocent bridal look? Go with a neutral gloss, like Lisa Noto’s Only You. Put a dab in the very centre of your bottom lip to create a pouty 3D illusion.

7. Marry-me Manicures

Organic wedding makeup looks means manicures, too! Accent your gorgeous ring with feminine-hued nails.  A base and top coat are a must to fortify chip-free nails, and then only two coats of a gorgeous 5-free nail enamel shade (containing no formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde resin, and camphor.) Our shade faves?

Mavala cream-finish nail enamels are fit for an eternal royal romance: we love  Duchess Rose in a nude pink hue, or add a coral flush with Romantic.

For a modern twist on a classic French manicure, apply this vegan-friendly sheer peach hue called 1993 by Lacc (la couleur couture).  This formula also contains a protective UV inhibitor – a sunscreen for your nails ladies! Perfect for that destination wedding at an exotic locale. Want to kick up the colour a notch? Try vegan-friendly Exurbe. Apply What a Girl Wants in a vivid pink hue, and fulfill your “something blue” with Waterfalls, a turquoise hue on your toenails for a hidden surprise under your gorgeous gown!
