Get Sweet Feet at Sweet Lily NYC

By Chiara Spagnoli Gabardi

Former music manager Donna Perillo opened Sweet Lily in 2002 with the purpose of creating a stylish, socially oriented nail salon where people could catch up from the Financial District after-work, while getting a quality mani-pedi treat, in the bustling TriBeCa location in New York.

Perillo’s shabby-chic space has ever since become a cult destination, thanks to the salon’s philosophy which revolves around the well-being of clients, as well as the planet. The treatments focus on healing, wellness and relaxation with an emphasis on natural ingredients. You won’t find any toxins and chemicals in this nail salon, and the healthy foot soaks shun soap in favour of natural fruits and food baths that infuse the skin with natural goodness. Β All hand and foot exfoliants are made on site daily, of course.

Foot soaks are made from seasonal produce

I tried the seasonal Vanilla Latte Pedicure and strongly recommend it to anyone who wants their feet to be a sweet as their morning cuppa.

Your feet will be immersed in a watery piping hot coffee tub covered with cold, fluffy whipped cream with a sprinkle of cinnamon. The chill of the top layer will blend with the heat of the liquid creating a voluptuous delight for your feet, stressed by winter boots.

Forget plastic salon chairs–Sweet Lily uses overstuffed armchairs that are so comfy, it’s hard not to take a nap. The only thing keeping me from doing so was the temptation to stick my finger in the whipped cream and licking it!

Love the salon’s shabby-chic aesthetic!

After the winter-coffeehouse treat footbath, will follow the vanilla coffee bean salt scrub, to exfoliate dead skin, where the feet will get lovingly pampered through a series of vanilla massages and cuticle refinement. The caffeine in coffee is a natural toner for the skin, whereas ground coffee beans are a gentle exfoliant and vanilla calms emotions and eases tension.

A foot soak that’s good enough to eat!

When the time comes to choose the nail polish, the colour palette of the eco-label used by Sweet Lily is stupendous: Zoya is a salon quality polish line that is formaldehyde, DBP, toluene and camphor free and is also safe for use on children and expectant moms.

Sweet Lily’s treatments, besides being socially responsible, as they strive to be green, sustainable and conscious in the way they conduct their business, are good enough to eat. And mark my words when I say that after the wake-me-up vanilla latte pedicure your tootsies will be begging for more!
